Statement from Governor Martin O'Malley on Death Penalty Regulations

Governor Martin O'Malley issued this statement today following the release of death penalty regulations by the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services:

"Maryland now has one of the most restrictive death penalty laws in nation. These new regulations mark an important step in ensuring that the death penalty in Maryland is carried out in a manner consistent with state and federal law. While I personally oppose the death penalty, I took an oath to uphold the laws of our State. Equally important, I am committed to ensuring the safety of our families and neighborhoods, and will continue to work to pass strong public safety regulations to take violent criminals off our streets."
